About Inter-Scot Transport Ltd
Inter-Scot Transport was started in 1992 by John Hodgson of Penrith. He took over a premises at Kingsway East in Dundee. Johns’ idea was to create a haulage business with no vehicles and to sub-contract all loads. John had done this before but this time he also had a warehouse, creating storage and extra haulage opportunities. Johns’ daughter (Beverley) joined the business during the earlier days to help run the accounts department, which she is still active with today.
In 1993 to run the business he brought in the experience Jim Traill and Greg Kerr form other local haulage companies. To help run the warehousing side he had father and son John and David Guthrie.
In 1994 Inter-Scot managed to get a lot of extra business warehousing thousands of tonnes of jute for the industry Dundee was famous for. To accommodate this a new warehouse was acquired. Sometime later John Hodgson decided to buy land in Dundee and build an extension to the warehouse in Dundee and the Carnoustie warehouse was no longer used.
While the warehousing side of the business was expanding, the haulage side of the business was also growing, and Inter-Scot still have some of these contracts to this very day.
Eventually Jim Traill moved on from the company and Harry Sime joined the business in 1996. Harry is still employed by Inter-Scot Transport.
Unfortunately, the jute side of the business went the same way as the rest of the jute industry in Dundee and no longer exists. The decision was made to stop the warehousing side of the business, and the land / buildings were sold to a well-known Dundee publisher.
In 2012 Paul Short started at Inter-Scot and brought with him many years of experience in the haulage business. Further to Paul in 2015 Euan Hendry was brought on board having previously worked for another Dundee haulier.
Johns’ granddaughter (Catherine) joined in 2018 to help oversee the movement of the accounts to a new system.
In 2023 Ian Addison was brought on board.
Greg retired in 2023 after a successful career spanning 29 years at the company. After his retirement Euan took over the running of the business.
The company has moved from its original premises but is still a vibrant and busy haulage company proudly based in Dundee and serving the whole of the UK.
